If you've spent any time looking for information about treating your space, chances are you've run across the term "early reflection point", "First Reflection Points" or "mirror point". These are just semi-technical terms used to describe a phenomenon common to all enclosed spaces no matter what size: that the direct sound from the loudspeakers will arrive at the listener's ears before the reflected sound does. It reflects not just off of the walls to the left and right, but off the floor, the ceiling and everything in-between.

15 Best Ways on How to Soundproof a Door That Actually works!

The most Important step when soundproofing any room in your home or office is to make sure the door is soundproof. The door is, of course, the biggest opening in most places that anyone would attempt to soundproof.

How to Soundproof a Door? The best way to soundproof a door in your home or office would be to install a solid core door. Also, attaching a rubber door sweep that is tight enough on the floor will seal the lower gap completely.

There are many other ways to sound proof a door since installing a solid core door can be expensive; especially for people on a low soundproofing budget.

So, that being said, I will think of every single way on how to soundproof a door so you can make a sound decision on which steps are best for you.

I wasn't going to do a video about how to sound proof a door because there is already some great information out there online. But I did realize there is some missing information that could prove very useful in your soundproofing project.

So much so that HOW you use it can have a big impact on how your final mix will sound.

And while your mixing software might seem complex, don't be overwhelmed. Instead focus on the big wins of EQ, compression, and level and then AVOID these three mistakes.

Want to watch the whole hour of silence?

Many stories have circulated claiming the longest anyone has stayed in an ultra-quiet anechoic chamber is 45 minutes, the reason being any longer would drive you insane. To me this sounded like unsubstantiated rubbish, like the claim the Great Wall is the only manmade structure visible from space. So I put my own psyche on the line, subjecting myself to over an hour of the most intense quiet on Earth. No, this was not THE quietest room on Earth (-9dB) but it is one of the quietest, and the truth is once you put a person inside, they are by far the loudest thing in there so the sound rating of the room is irrelevant.

I was not surprised to find that I could stay in there for as long as I liked and feel perfectly fine. What was surprising is that my heartbeat was audible. You can hear it on the sound recording. Now I wasn't consciously aware of the sound of my heart while in the room, but I was more aware of the feeling of it beating.

Huge thank...

In this video I explore the possibility of making DIY sound absorption panels on a budget, later comparing them to much more expensive acoustic foam. The results are pretty amazing!

There have been many comments pointing out that my test only measures transmission and not reflection, so is essentially unsuitable for my initial testing goal. While this is partly true, testing reflection is pretty difficult to do in a home environment, and the only way to do it that I can think of would be to spend a long time in the middle of a field with a powerful speaker and mic rig, which is really beyond the scope of what I was prepared to do for the video.

My tests are not rendered pointless however - it would do no good to have only measured reflection, as the thinnest lightest material would have won (like foam), as nothing would have bounced back. Reflection and transmission need to be tested together to measure how much sound passes through, and how much sound is reflected back - this should give an indication of how much sound is absorbed by a given material.

Regardless, only testing the transmission doesn't affect the outcome of the project at all, as any sound waves reflected by the panels themselves would have theoretically bounced off the wall...

This video shows you how to use rigid compressed fiberglas board to fix the acoustics of a home studio.

We usually use Owens Corning 703 board, but we found a new material made by a company called Knauf that does a better job and is cheaper! It is called Knauf Insulation board with Ecose Technology. It is two inches thick and has a density of 3 pounds per cubic foot. The board come three ways -- plain - which means it is uncovered on both sides. Or, faced with thin white plastic on one side which they call ASJ facing. Or, with a facing of thin aluminum foil -- which they call FSK. I liked the way the specs looked for the FSK -- so we went with that.

We bought 24 of these panels, in San Antonio, Texas from Distribution International. Total cost of the panels was $258.

Your time is precious. You want to make sure you're spending that time in the creative process and not with technical things.

Getting your clips in the right place on your timeline requires a certain action. That action begins with loading the clips from your camera. As mentioned in the tutorial, it's important to organize everything from the first step. How many times are you looking for missing clips or forgot where you stored certain files? That takes up more time than if you would organize from the start.

Besides being organized, there're more things for a faster editing workflow. Like working with shortcuts, adjusting the Premiere Pro workspace to specific actions or making sure your computer will run faster. If your computer isn't that fast you can chose to purchase a new one, but you don't always have to.

We can find several techniques like working with proxies or changing the amount of RAM memory Premiere Pro can use. All of these techniques are shown in the tutorial video.

Samson Co1u that comes with cake walk $44

Now you need a mic stand which is $20

A Pop filter which is only $7

Acoustic Treatment $17 for 12

Uhaul Blankets $30 for 6 HUGE blankets

Command Strips to put them up $6

My video comparing a room with and without acoustic treatment

For all this it's $95 to $101 depending on if you get the Uhaul blankets or the acoustic treatment and the command strips

This prices do not include you having your computer but to be honest even super cheap $300 laptops or desktop computers have more than enough computing power to run pro tools and allow you to record yourself from home no problem.
