Lesser Long-eared Bats can usually be found in small crevices such as peeling and hanging bark, in tree hollows or in caves, but have also reportedly been found in buildings, rolled up swags, under piles of bricks and even old hung up clothes! These highly adaptable little bats are one of the most widespread endemic bat species in Australia - present in a wide range of habitats such as semi-arid areas, mallee, woodland, wet forest, alpine areas, tropical forest, and urban areas! Long-eared bats generally form small colonies of about twenty, these bats are known as 'whispering bats' because their echolocation sounds are very quiet. They have particularly sensitive low frequency hearing and often locate prey from the sounds made by the insect's own movements, they may sometimes use vision.
Long-eared bats are gleaners, often flying slowly amongst foliage, picking insects off leaves and bark. Their broad wings and tail allow slow, highly manoeuvrable, hovering flight.
Sometimes they land on the ground to catch insects or to shift them into a controllable position in the mouth, and they are even able to take insects from lighted windows. Their flight often includes steep dives and short glides.
As in this video, summer roosts are usually located in older buildings, barns, where it often roosts on exposed timbers.

Natterer's bat (Myotis nattereri) is a European vespertilionid bat with pale wings. It has brown fur tending to greyish-white on its underside. It is found across most of the continent of Europe, parts of the Near East and North Africa. It feeds on insects and other invertebrates which it catches on the wing or pursues on the ground. In summer it roosts in deciduous and coniferous trees, buildings or bat boxes close to its feeding habitats. In winter it hibernates in caves, tunnels, mines or cellars, usually hiding in crevices. This bat was first described in 1817 by Heinrich Kuhl, who named it in honour of the Austrian naturalist Johann Natterer.

One of the UK's rarest mammals, the grey long-eared bat, is in danger of disappearing from the country, according to research.

A four-year study by scientists from the University of Bristol estimated that there were just 1,000 of the bats left - all confined to southern England.

BBC science reporter Victoria Gill went in search of the bats at a secret location in Devon - one of just ten known maternal roosts.

Dr Orly Razgour, who led the research and was the guide on this bat safari, says the bats' foraging habitat needs to be protected if the species is to survive in this country.

These Leisler's bats roost in a house close to a busy city centre, they return each spring and leave late summer. This was filmed in July and several bats were seen returning to the roost and social calling probably to encourage their young out of the roost. You can see examples of the variety of their echolocations calls.

Abstract
Many insects use nectar as their principal diet and have mouthparts specialized in nectarivory, whereas most nectar-feeding vertebrates are opportunistic users of floral resources and only a few species show distinct morphological specializations. Specialized nectar-feeding bats extract nectar from flowers using elongated tongues that correspond to two vastly different morphologies: Most species have tongues with hair-like papillae, whereas one group has almost hairless tongues that show distinct lateral grooves. Recent molecular data indicate a convergent evolution of groove- and...

Sometimes bats come and roost during the night in our porch. They are Horseshoe bats and we believe Greater Horseshoe because of the size. Hopefully, we will have proof of that this year.
Bats are a protected species and you need to check with Natural England before filming them. It is illegal to disturb a Bat Roost, even if it is your own porch!
