On October 31, 1517 theology professor Martin Luther nailed 95 theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg. That action set off the Protestant Reformation, which dramatically changed both Germany and Europe. Today, many places still exist that recall the life and work of the religious reformer.

Luther Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaires, "Oh My Lord" Original Release Date: February 6, 1988

Award-winning gospel artist Luther Barnes began performing professionally when he was only nine years old. During his long career he has been part of a number of groups, released a long list of albums, had his songs featured in films, and even appeared in off-Broadway plays. He has many talents, including singer, songwriter, and pianist.

Luther Barnes was raised in North Carolina as part of a large extended family comprised of many musicians and vocalist. Another love the members shared was of the gospel, in both word and song. When Barnes was only nine, he became part of a group called the Barnes Juniors. It was formed by his father, Reverend F.C. Barnes. Other members were Luther's brothers and one of his uncles. Luther also took part in another family group, the Sunset Jubilaires, and then later in the Budd Gospel Choir. When time came for college, Barnes entered the St. Augustine College located in Raleigh, NC. There he earned a B.A. degree in Music Education. He used that training to become a music teacher at both his former junior high and high schools, and to give private piano and vocal lessons. He has also served as minister of music at...

Treasures and Great Saints cult Catacombs,

Art historian Paul Koudounaris hunted down and photographed dozens of gruesome skeletons in some of the world's most secretive religious establishments. Thousands of skeletons were dug up from Roman catacombs in the 16th century and installed in towns around Germany, Austria and Switzerland on the orders of the Vatican. They were sent to Catholic churches and religious houses to replace the relics destroyed in the wake of the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s. Mistaken for the remains of early Christian martyrs, the morbid relics, known as the Catacomb Saints, became shrines reminding of the spiritual treasures of the...

Using pieces from “Martin Luther: Art and the Reformation” the Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, teaches interesting and important facts about the Reformation. The 500th anniversary of the Reformation provides an excellent opportunity to recall and learn the importance of Luther’s teachings on the truth of God’s love for people by grace alone, by faith alone, by Scripture alone, through Christ alone.
In the midst of life, we are in death, but the risen and victorious Christ turns that around: in the midst of death, we are in life. Luther taught that God will always take care of His Church after the Reformation. The Gospel is all about God’s love for undeserving sinners. It’s still all about Jesus.

Lyrics:
Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again

Martin Luther is said to have nailed his 95 theses to the door of Wittenberg's Castle Church in 1517, launching the Reformation that changed Germany and Europe. We follow Luther's footsteps in the most important stations of his life.Wittenberg is considered the center of the Reformation. This is the home of the Castle Church with Luther's tomb and the portal to which he nailed his theses. Here is the university where he taught. Here are the homes of Luther's companions Philipp Melanchthon and Lucas Cranach. And here is the Luther House, where the reformer lived with his wife and children. Martin Luther was born in Eisleben in 1483 and died there in 1546. His birth house and his death house are pilgrimage sites for visitors from all over the world. Luther first came to Eisenach when he was 15 years old to attend Latin school. 20 years later, his path brought him back to Eisenach. In the Wartburg, he translated the New Testament from Latin into German in just 10 weeks.

Take a tour of Historic Town of Erfurt in Erfurt, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

The historic town of Erfurt represents a typical medieval German town, and lies in the center of the country bordered by the Steigerwald Forest.

This area has been inhabited since the prehistoric era, with the oldest human remains found here dating to around 100,000 BC.

The city's medieval center, known for its churches, bridges, and monastery, has been well-preserved.

The half timbered houses in this locale represent classic medieval German architecture.

Martin Luther obtained his theology degrees and a few years later entered the Augustinian friary of Erfurt.

Erfurt has been part of several empires, changing from Prussian to French and finally to German rule.

Magnificent medieval sites such as this unique bridge covered by over 30 residences, with a footbridge in between, attests to Erfurt's deep-rooted history.

Because of its strategic valley location Erfurt suffered limited damage during World War Two, and later became the capital of the state in which it resides.
