The DDG-51 Arleigh Burke class of guided missile destroyers (DDGs) is the United States Navy's first class of destroyer built around the Aegis Combat System and the SPY-1D multifunction passive electronically scanned array radar. The class is named for Admiral Arleigh Burke, the most famous American destroyer officer of World War II, and later Chief of Naval Operations. The class leader, USS Arleigh Burke, was commissioned during Admiral Burke's lifetime.
These warships were designed as multimission destroyers to fit the antiaircraft warfare (AAW) role with their powerful Aegis radar and surface-to-air missiles; antisubmarine warfare (ASW), with their towed sonar array, antisubmarine rockets, and ASW helicopter; antisurface warfare (ASuW) with their Harpoon missile launcher; and strategic land strike role with their Tomahawk missiles. With upgrades to their to AN/SPY-1 phased radar systems and their associated missile payloads as part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, the ships of this class have also begun to demonstrate some promise as mobile antiballistic missile and antisatellite weaponry platforms. Some versions of the class no longer have the towed sonar, or Harpoon missile launcher. Their hull and superstructure were designed to have a...

Adding large numbers of new next-generation destroyers will substantially change the Navy's ability to conduct major maritime warfare operations by enabling surface forces to detect enemy attacks at much farther distances, launch long-range strikes with greater precision and destructive force and disperse offensive forces across much wider swaths of ocean.
The US Navy has awarded deals for 10 new high-tech DDG 51 Flight III Destroyers and built in options to add even more ships and increase the "build rates" for construction of new warships - all as part of a massive strategic push to accelerate fleet growth and usher in a new era of warfighting technology for the Navy.
Six of the new destroyers will be built by Huntington Ingalls Industries in a $5 billion deal, and four of them were awarded to General Dynamics Bath Iron Works for $3.9 billion, according to a Navy announcement. The acquisition is a multi-year procurement intended to reach from this year through...

This is a complete re-design to my original Arleigh Burke Destroyer I made several years ago. That video has over 120K views at time of this upload and I thank everyone very much for the awesome support and I also hope that you enjoy this new build even more than the original. This one is way more accurate and closer to scale :-)

USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51), named for Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, USN (1901–1996), is the lead ship of the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers. She was laid down by the Bath Iron Works company at Bath, Maine, on 6 December 1988, and launched on 16 September 1989 by Mrs. Arleigh Burke. The Admiral was present in person at her commissioning ceremony on 4 July 1991, which was held on the waterfront in downtown Norfolk, Virginia.
The helicopter on the back is supposed to be a Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk. It's not very accurate or built to the best of my ability but it works :-P Might try to do another one at some point.
You are free to use any of my designs on your worlds or...

USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) successfully launches an SM-2 Standard Missile from the forward and aft Vertical Launching System as part of their Combat System Ship Qualification Trials (CSSQT). The Spanish Navy Ship Cristobol Colon (F 105) and Arleigh Burke conducted cooperative air defense test exercises including Tactical Data Link interoperability tests of the latest AEGIS Baseline 9.C1 with a foreign ship, as well as the first combined Combat Systems Ship Qualification Trial with the Spanish Navy since 2007. These types of cooperative events with our allies and partners deepen our operational relationships, making us collectively stronger and better postured to face new and emerging challenges.

This video shows you that Navy Will Start Construction in May on High Tech Flight III DDG 51 Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer.
The Navy will start construction of its first next-generation, high-tech Flight III DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyer in May of this year - as part of its broad service plan to deploy a new fleet of technically advanced warships able to fire new weapons, better detect enemy attacks and prepare for a highly contested future maritime threat environment.
Speaking at the Surface Naval Association symposium recently, Capt. Casey Moton, Major Program Manager, DDG 51 Program Office, PEO Ships, said fabrication of the first Flight III Destroyer will begin at Huntington Ingalls in May of this year. Flight III destroyer warships are slated to start entering service in the 2020s.
Moton emphasized the new, super-sensitive AN/SPY-6 radar as a distinguishing characteristic of Flight III destroyers, as it is expected to vastly expand the protective envelope for ship-integrated defenses.
“Fielding the AMDR will bring much improved ballistic missile defense by providing truly integrated simultaneous air and missile defense,” Moton said at SNA.
The Navy is now finalizing the detailed designed phase and finishing...

Also known as the DDG 51-class, after the hull number on the lead ship of the class, the Arleigh Burke-class has changed a lot since its eponymous vessel first slid into the sea. Since that first ship launched in 1989, the class has undergone several evolutions, known successively as Flight I, Flight II, and Flight IIA -- 64 active destroyers in all. With each Flight, the Arleigh Burke-class has gotten a bit longer, a bit heavier, and a bit better equipped than the one preceding it.

DDG 51 Arleigh Burke destroyers are warships that provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities. Destroyers can operate independently or as part of carrier strike groups, surface action groups, amphibious ready groups, and underway replenishment groups.
Guided missile destroyers are multi-mission Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW)] surface combatants. The destroyer's armament has greatly expanded the role of the ship in strike warfare utilizing the MK-41 Vertical Launch System (VLS).

This video shows you that The U S Navy's Next Generation Flight III DDG-51 Destroyers Are About To Get A Powerful New Radar.
The United States Navy has awarded Raytheon a $327 million contract modification to start initial low rate production of the AN/SPY-6(V) Air and Missile Defense Radar Program (AMDR). The money covers the first three sets of radars, which are slated for installation onboard the Flight III version of the long-serving Arleigh Burke–class (DDG-51) destroyers.
“Progressing to production is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication from our AMDR team of experts across Raytheon, the Navy, and our world-class suppliers. In just over three years of the Engineering, Manufacturing and Development phase, we’ve gone from a technology demonstrator to a technically mature, highly advanced, functioning radar,” Tad Dickenson, Raytheon's Air and Missile Defense Radar program director, said. “Production begins today - which brings us one day closer to delivering this needed, and unprecedented, integrated air and missile defense capability to the Navy.”
Thanks to gallium-nitride-based technology, the new radar is many times more capable than the current AN/SPY-1 that is installed on the current generation of Arleigh...
