A quick tutorial for beginners on how to configure and implement VTP for the Cisco CCNA, using Packet Tracer.

In this video tutorial, I demonstrate how VTP shares VLAN information by configuring a VTP server and a VTP client, and then connecting them together with a trunk. The demonstration is easy to follow along with, in Packet Tracer.

Cisco AutoSecure Lab - Part 1 of 4

AutoSecure is valuable to customers without special Security Operations Applications because it allows them to quickly secure their network without thorough knowledge of all the Cisco IOS features.

This feature eliminates the complexity of securing a router by creating a new CLI that automates the configuration of security features and disables certain features enabled by default that could be exploited for security holes.

This command takes you through a semi-interactive session (also known as the AutoSecure dialogue) in which to secure the management and forwarding planes. This command gives you the option to secure just the management or forwarding plane; if neither option is selected, the dialogue will ask you to configure both planes.

The biggest advantage of using AutoSecure is that you can harden a router with a single command. This is a blessing and a curse. The command is intended to assist those who dont know much about routers and and want to make sure their device is secure. The problem with this is that if you dont know much about routers then youre going to have a hell of a time troubleshooting any issues brought on by AutoSecure.

Router(config)#enable secret vinita
Sets enable secret password to vinita
Router(config)#line console 0
Enters console line mode
Router(config-line)#password console
Sets console line mode password to console
Enables password checking at login
Router(config)#line vty 0 4
Enters vty line mode for all five vty lines
Router(config-line)#password telnet

Router(config)#line aux 0
Enters auxiliary line mode
Router(config-line)#password aux
Sets auxiliary line mode password to aux
Enables password checking at login
CAUTION: The enable secret password is encrypted by default. The enable password is not. For this reason, recommended practice is that you never use the enable password command. Use only the enable secret password command in a router or switch configuration.
You cannot set both enable secret password and enable password to the same password. Doing so defeats the use of encryption.

I have been in IT since 2010. I started out doing HP warranty support, hardware. Then I was lucky enough to be called out of the blue by a temp agency and got a really good job working with a defense contractor doing desk side support. I did that for two and half years. I left because during that time I had graduated college, bachelor of applied arts and science//applied technology and performance improvement(so it's not a computer science degree), I also had acquired my CCNA. With that I put my resume out there. Later a temp agency called me about a level 1 technician job at a large financial company working in their NOC. I did that and within 3 months I was let go. They knew I was new, and I had just had an interview with my manager and he said I was doing well. I know they were really needing Spanish speakers, because we had lost a bunch of them and the ones that were left were always on the phone. Anyway, so I then got a part time gig with a friend of a friend that had some clients and he did their IT support. Then I was hired on with another small company and there I was able to touch servers, deal with city organizations(we provided support for 3 small cities) this also meant helping the fire and police personnel. I was just let go from this job 2 months...

What is NAT?

Network Address Translation (NAT) is used to convert private IP addresses to public IP addresses and vise versa.
The feature was introduced to prolong the life of IPv4 addresses. By using NAT you can convert all your private IP addresses to a single (or few) public address. This means a huge number of public addresses can be saved because the private addresses can be used over and over again in private networks across the world.

Types of NAT
There are three types of NAT, some more common than others but it’s a good idea to know exactly how each one works and how they can be used.

Static NAT is when you manually assign each private IP address + port number a public IP address + port number. This could be used when running web server or mail serve.

The way Dynamic NAT works is by assigning each private IP to a public IP from a manually created pool of available public addresses.
You can use this to merge two networks with the same subnet together. You would configure the connecting routers to make the subnets appear to be different to what they actually are.

PAT (Overload)
Port Address Transaction (PAT) or Overload as it is often called is the most popular version...
